That’s a great question Jesse. And first, I apologize for somehow missing your post! I’m glad I just found it! What a great question…
So, it’s based on you. As you, for example, work with Entering the Mystery Gate… we recommend sticking with that for a while. At first some people say they have no fears that come up, but if they keep doing it eventually, some fears come up. The goal is to allow the fears to be a sort of friend… telling you to be cautious perhaps but not freezing you in your tracks. So as a person works through that, and feels like it’s shifted, then you’d go onto the next one, which is the What Do I Really Want Meditation. And then that has it’s own way of working through it. Does that make sense? Our book talks a lot about the progression through the stages. That might be helpful for you :-)! Or you could go ahead and work with one of our practitioners and receive energy session (in person or virtual) to have someone facilitate and guide that process. It’s nice to share it, but you can also do it on your own! We also have an apprenticeship, which is a year long program to do with a cohort. Anyway, I’d be happy to chat more. Keep asking the questions! – Leta

So what I see initially in your walks is some Wood (your arms come out a bit from your sides and your energy is leading with your diaphragm). Some Metal (your shoulders are back and your arms are a bit floppy). The other one is either Earth or Fire. I am leaning toward Earth because I think when you’re walking slow, your hips go side to side a little bit. Your Wood score wasn’t that high… so I wonder, do you relate to the Wood Element at all?

Thanks Andreas. If anyone else is trying to view the videos, they only show up if you download them right now (I’m working with tech support). Luckily though, I can see them!

Hi Frazer,
Yes there is. Each Element has a Yin and a Yang type. So for Water, there’s the Yang Bladder type and the Yin Kidney type.
The difference between the yin and yang types is that the yang type tends to process things. The yin type tends to store things. So what does that look like? Well, in a Bladder type, they will be perhaps more active, perhaps a bit faster, more involved in the management or the resources, moving things where they need to go, making sure there’s enough in each location. Whereas the Kidney type, might be a bit slower, a bit more patient, not moving all the time, and storing the Willpower.
As a contrast, the Earth Element is Spleen for yin and Stomach for yang. Spleen holds Ideas – concepts, theories, thoughts. The Stomach processes those thoughts, so is about thinking everything through, analysis.
Does that make sense?
It’s a great question…

Hi Jocelyn,
Thanks so much for reaching out and I apologize for not responding sooner! I somehow missed your post. We are so happy you’re enjoying the podcast!
The different types of Fire are: Heart (rare), Small Intestine (slightly rare), Pericardium (most common) and Triple Heater (also rare). Heart and Small Intestine are paired and Pericardium and Triple Heater are paired.
The only resources that I’ve looked at are Claude Larre and Elizabeth Rochat de la Vallee (though they’re dense reading).
Basically – Pericardiums are how we mostly describe fire – outgoing but can be shy when they don’t feel safe, smiley, a little self-centered, love to share and find common ground, want to be loved, etc. Everything we talk about for Fire.
Small Intestine is similar but a little less shy and also is constantly sorting – deciding what’s right or wrong for them.
Heart is quite rare- life can be quite chaotic, people have strong reactions to them, and they might not have as many friends or be quite so social
Triple Heater is uber social, life of the party, not shy, kind of extreme fire.
Thanks again! And let me know if you have more questions!

Hi Becky, thanks for sharing your walk!
We see two things that are predominant… your hips go side to side (which is Earth) and your arms are a bit lax and your shoulders are back (which is Metal). In your fast walk we’re thinking you might have Water or Wood third because there’s some force there… it seems to be more coming from your low back (Water) rather than your diaphragm (Wood). I’m curious what you think?
-
Ahhh! Well, you might be Wood third from this description, and you used your Wood to survive. And that’s a very draining strategy. Also Wood and Earth can be responsible for Chronic Fatigue, where the Wood is likely to be Liver Blood deficiency… meaning you used up a lot of your resources to be bigger than you truly are. Luckily, once you identify this and move into your Metal and Earth, you’ll find that you’ll have more energy. Also lots of moxibustion might be in order if your body is not too hot… to replenish the blood… That’s the philosophy behind Chinese Medicine… perhaps your acupuncturist is already on that! You could check with them if not and see if they would recommend that. Thanks for posting your video! We all learn from your walk!
-
Hi Chelsea, So sorry I missed this one in my feed! But Jaye and I just looked at your walks together. We see some Metal some Wood and some Earth. So everyone can learn, there’s a slight side to side in your hips, your shoulders are back, but you also walk with a forward walk, that means Wood or Water. In this case, you seem to be more stomping and coming from your diaphragm, that is Wood versus pushing forward from your hips, which would be more Water. Your eyes are also very direct, which is more Wood.
So much wood perhaps, it could be Wood/Metal/Earth or some combination of those three?
Does that track at all for you?
-
Hi Andreas, sorry for the delay. Somehow this post didn’t show up for me until now. Great to see your videos. I am wondering about Fire and Water for you and maybe some Wood. What elements do you think you are? For everyone else, note the power that propels him forward in this video.

I agree that Lung is more oriented to seeking a higher connection, but I think Large Intestine people would beg to different. It’s just their way of doing it is different. It’s more conversational. More wordy. Both types can do sex drugs and rock n roll or be super duper goody two-shoes. It’s kind of like Water Elements – each Water does something that feels “dangerous” in their lives, but for some reason they feel safe doing it. It just makes them feel intense. Some it might be jumping out of an airplane. Others it might be acting in a play. You just can’t make sweeping generalizations. So for Metal, the sex drugs and rock n roll thing might look completely different for some metals. What does a Metal feel reverent about and what does that same person feel irreverent about? And remember, the reverence may be in the sex drugs and rock ‘n roll itself. It’s all about connection and loss simultaneously at the same time.
-
Yes, that’s a good way to break it down! Lung being more reverent and graceful in the usual sense. But I don’t think large intestine is necessarily more darker and more irreverent. Actually, Lung is more darker and irreverent BECAUSE they spend so much time being reverent. Large Intestine is more about finding the gems in the garbage. Finding things that others have missed that we need to reuse and admire. They both have a similar sarcarstic sense of humor. LI is also very active and constantly working (mentally) whereas Lung kind of floats on the breeze.
-
Hi Frazer, we really only do the yin/yang organs for the first Element. The second Element really isn’t broken down at that level.
-
If you feel more Fire, the bounce is definitely there in the faster walk, don’t you think?
-
Well, it’s totally possible that you’ve made your walk more Woody than it would be naturally. I lot of people in martial arts, I think, may do this, especially the more yang styles. The more yin style might create more Water type movement. Do you think your walk might be influenced by your lifestyle then? If you’re truly Fire and Wood second, perhaps you rely on your Wood a little too heavily?
